The Albert Animal Hospital is a family owned and operated veterinary hospital based in Springwood, Queensland. We are dedicated to quality small animal medicine and surgical procedures. We aim to provide your pets with excellent care in a compassionate, stress-free environment.Our team of 7 vets have a combined 149 years of experience. Our clinic has been caring for pets in our local area since 1978.

Our building was purpose built as a veterinary clinic.To ensure you and your pets are attended to as soon as possible, we have a large waiting room and 4 consulting rooms. Behind the scenes we have a spacious treatment room, fully equiped surgery, xray room and new ultrasonography suite.

Our Vets

James Carmichael

Veterinary Surgeon

After James graduated from the University of Queensland, he enjoyed life as a mixed-practice vet, treating large and small animals of all shapes and sizes. In 2007, James took over the directorship of the Albert Animal Hospital, where he now takes pleasure in all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery, with a particular interest in ultrasonography. James’s dedication to his patients and their owners can be seen in his willingness to go above and beyond every time.

When James is not in the clinic, he enjoys vegetable gardening or camping and exploring Australia with his wife, Amy, and their two kids.

Jason Schulz

Veterinary Surgeon

Jason has been part of the team at Albert Animal Hospital for over 13 years. Considering the clinic to be his second home, Jason has established wonderful long-lasting relationships with many of his patients and their parents.

Jason has been lucky enough to experience so many advances in the last 30 years of his career, particularly noticing improved access to tools that allow for better diagnostics, helping our patients back to good health more quickly. Although Jason enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, he has a keen interest in surgery and dentistry. Even after 30 years Jason is still learning and improving what he does with the support of the team.

Outside of work, Jason likes to fish, dabble in bird photography, and relax at home with his 2 cats, 2 dogs, and his finch aviary.

Marilyn Simon

Veterinary Surgeon

After spending her childhood in Cairns, Marilyn moved to Brisbane to study at UQ and graduated with her Veterinary Science degree in 2005. She has been a valued member of the Albert Animal Hospital veterinary team since 2012. Marilyn has a warm and friendly nature, which comes across in her uncanny ability to connect with and calm patients instantly when in her presence. Marilyn brings a wealth of knowledge to the team in the areas of surgery, medicine, and dentistry in particular. As Social Media Manager, Marilyn is in charge of all things Facebook and Instagram. 

If you can’t find Marilyn at the clinic, you are sure to find her on her yoga mat or somewhere in nature.

Victor Burren

Veterinary Surgeon

A veteran here at Albert Animal Hospital, Dr Vic has been a Veterinary Surgeon with the clinic since it opened in 1978! Vic grew up a Brisbane boy and completed his Veterinary Science degree in 1977 at the University of Queensland. As a part-time member of the team, Vic’s cheerfulness can be felt instantly on a Friday by his clients, patients, and colleagues. Vic has a keen interest in geriatric medicine, endeavouring to keep our elderly patients as comfortable as possible throughout their senior years.

The owner of several working dogs, a Burmese called Lily, and a flock of chooks, Vic spends time outside the hospital working hard on his cattle farm in the Gold Coast hinterland. Vic is also an avid rose-growing enthusiast.

Kylie Pollock

Veterinary Surgeon

Kylie grew up in our local area and graduated from the University of Queensland in 2001. After initially working with large and small animals in Beaudesert, she arrived at the Albert Animal Hospital in 2008 to focus on small animal medicine and surgery. Kylie particularly enjoys dentistry and soft tissue surgeries. She finds online veterinary webinars a great way to access knowledge from a range of veterinary specialists globally. When not treating patients part-time, Kylie enjoys spending time with her family and attempting to survive amateur triathlons.

Yoyo Fan

Veterinary Surgeon

Yoyo graduated from the University of Queensland and worked in a small animal clinic in Ipswich for 2 years before joining the Albert Animal Hospital. Yoyo enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, but has a particular interest in surgery, dentistry, and also providing palliative care for our older patients. 

Outside of work, Yoyo enjoys baking and spending time outdoors with her two beautiful dogs on Sunday and Monday. 

Allen Chang

Veterinary Surgeon

Originally from Taiwan, Allen is a south Brisbane local who has been living in Australia since 2011. Allen’s passion within the veterinary industry lies strongly with small animals, with a keen interest in surgery as well as emergency and critical care. Allen is a University of Queensland Graduate and joined our team in December 2020. 

 When he is not at work, Allen enjoys watching footy, playing basketball, and spending time with his dog Mumu.

Our Nurses

Georgia Dolman

Head Veterinary Nurse

Our beautiful Head Veterinary Nurse, Georgia started her Veterinary Nursing career in 2014. George ensures our days are organised and keeps our clinic running smoothly. George brings her enthusiasm with her to the clinic each and every day and her gentle nature has a calming effect on all kinds of animals, from her horses and kitty cats at home, down to our patients here at the hospital. George is a dedicated Veterinary Nurse and seizes every opportunity to get in and be involved wherever she can. She has a particular passion for surgical nursing and excellent hospital care.

George lives on acreage and has two horses, two cats, two dogs, three snakes, and a menagerie of chooks and guinea pigs. On weekends George can be found enjoying the outdoors and riding her horses.

Tara Law

Receptionist

Tara took on the role of Head Veterinary Nurse here at Albert Animal Hospital in 2011 and eventually took on the role of head Receptionist. She brings to our nursing team years of experience and a wealth of knowledge. Tara is constantly on the move ensuring that our hospital is organised and running efficiently from start to finish every day of the week. Tara is always ensuring that our owners are kept up-to-date with the progress of their fur babies during their stay at the clinic.

Tara is a proud Nan to three beautiful grandchildren and when she’s not spending time with her extended family, she likes to take her two Fox Terriers, Max and Millie out on boating adventures.

Brianna Tracy

Veterinary Nurse

Our bubbly and happy Bri started nursing with us in 2018 and completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2020. Bri enjoys all the daily challenges that the clinic offers but especially loves nursing your pets during their dental and surgical procedures.

Bri’s main goal is to provide a caring and stress-free hospital environment for our patients, so you will often find her giving them a reassuring cuddle throughout the day.

When Bri is not at the clinic you will find her taking Archie the Miniature Dachshund out on adventures, at the gym, or dining out with friends.

Christina Luxford

Veterinary Nurse

Chrissy is one of our senior vet nurses who joined the Albert Animal Hospital family 10 years ago. Chrissy’s favourite aspect of nursing is bonding with the feline patients and enjoying the challenges they can bring. When not at work Chrissy is kept busy with her two adorable and mischievous dachshunds, Loki and Korg.

Kate Martin

Veterinary Nurse

Kate brings 25 years of Vet Nursing experience to Team Albert and has a gentle, knowing way with animals. She is an artistic soul who enjoys painting, drawing and crocheting.

Kate enjoys time with her family with their array of dogs, cats, birds, guinea pigs and fish! You can also find her at the beach, or off travelling the world and she loves a good hot chocolate.

Juliette Walters

Receptionist & Veterinary Nurse

Meet Veterinary Nurse Juliette, affectionately known as Julz. Julz has a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and is also a Delta Accredited Animal Behaviourist.

Julz is passionate about behaviour management and ensures we provide a stress-free environment here at the clinic. Julz is always willing to offer advice to owners on how they can reduce stress and provide vital enrichment at home for their fur babies. A much-loved member of our team, Julz lights up the clinic with her happy face.

Alannah Read

Veterinary Nurse

Alannah is eager to learn and looks forward to the many challenges in the future that increase her knowledge of the Vet industry. She loves helping out around the clinic and ensures that your pets are getting the extra scratches and cuddles they need when staying with us. 

At home, Alannah loves to sew, hang out at the beach, travel in her van and spend all of her money at cafes!

Alyssa Porter

Veterinary Nurse

Alyssa has recently completed her Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing and is looking forward to expanding her knowledge and learning from everyone in the team.

In her spare time, Alyssa enjoys shopping with friends, eating way too much gelato and spending time at home with her dog, cat and most likely a cup of tea.
